The Biggest Online Marketing Mistakes
You know when you acquire a new LinkedIn or Facebook “friend” and the very next thing that happens is you get a message imploring you to buy from them or subscribe to their services? If you’re anything like me, you promptly “unfriend” them without so much as a good-bye.
My friend Michael Hughes (https://networkingforresults.com/) teaches us about smart online marketing, and it doesn’t look at all like these ham-fisted efforts. His latest e-tip is copied below, verbatim.
Enjoy!
The pandemic created a seismic shift in networking. Overnight, online interactions became our primary vehicle for connecting and building relationships.
The good news is it created a new networking paradigm, forcing us to innovate and embrace a virtual world with unlimited potential.
The bad news is technology-based communication now drives most of our online interactions. And most of us suck at it. Here are some of the most common mistakes.
Little to no strategy. It’s obvious that many people are using a spray-and-pray approach, rather than identifying a market and high-value prospects, then building relationships.
Sell – Sell – Sell. There seems to be a complete disconnect between how we handle F2F and online interactions. Online, too many people immediately jump to “selling mode”.
Connect – Qualify – Close. Often, there seems to be a complete disregard for the need to connect on a personal level before broaching business topics. It’s just common sense.
Misuse of technology. Technology options may be convenient. That doesn’t mean they’re helpful. I’m now getting messages that are obviously AI-generated responses, which immediately destroys credibility.
Which of these have you been subjected to, and which are you guilty of?
