Norm Bowley is a writer, speaker, and consultant based in Perth, Ontario.
After ten years in the classroom, Norm went off to law school and thereafter spent 37 years practicing in Ottawa, primarily in commercial and estates matters. Along the way he picked up his Master of Laws, Trademark Agency, and Trusts and Estates Professional designations.
Throughout his practice, Norm was fascinated by the question, “Why do some lawyers seem to love what they’re doing and perform so well, while others just drift along until they retire?” And, as his practice grew, he began to wonder the same about many other professionals who became his clients. From those questions came his “Eureka” moment: it’s not the credentials, it’s the individual, and particularly, the individual’s Giftings. This website delves into those findings, and more to the point, how those findings can help you.
Norm publishes two newsletters — Friday Briefings and Norm’s Notes — the first dealing with the professions and how to be great, the second being, as he puts it “Whatever comes into my head”, generally commentary on the society in which we live. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS), as well as a non-practicing member of the Law Society of Ontario.
His current book project, The Credentials Trap, examines why the credential system is a poor sorter of talent and how successful people find alignment between their innate gifts and genuine market needs. The secret to success and joy, he discovered, is found in the most extraordinary place.
