Communication Resolution for 2018
Most of us make New Year’s Resolutions, and most of us fail at them. This generally happens because they are too ambitious, too general, and made without accountability.
But what if each of us made one simple resolution, in the following format? “In 2018 I resolve to communicate better with AB by doing XY.”
AB might be your employees, your customers, your partner, your spouse, your son or your daughter, or …..
XY might be “letting them finish their question”, “calling one client per month to ask for one idea to improve the client experience”, “going for breakfast at least one Saturday per month”. You get the picture– keep it simple, but clear. Then diarize it and implement it.
Now here comes the hard part: have a trusted friend commit, once a quarter, to hold you accountable as to how you’re doing.
I guarantee that if you follow through it will not only revolutionize your relationship, but it will revolutionize how you think about communication.

In 2018 I hope to take my speaking, writing and teaching practice to a new level. In this regard, I cherish the advice and opinions of friends and would be very grateful to hear from any reader who would be willing to share with me where you think my talents and passion, such as they are, are best put to service– what subject matter, what audience, what media.
From King George VI Christmas Day Broadcast, 1939
And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied: “Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”
